About RSVP
Solid Ground receives federal funding through AmeriCorps Seniors to operate our Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). One of the largest senior volunteer networks in the nation, RSVP is open to anyone 55 and older who wants to use their time, talents, and wisdom to make a difference.
Join us and nearly 800 volunteers across King County to address critical community needs by volunteering with one or more of our approximately 40 nonprofit partners. Your volunteer hours contribute to a national service impact: As an RSVP member, you are part of a group of volunteers who collectively give thousands of hours each year to strengthen their communities across the country. Your experience and skills can make a difference!

Central Seattle RSVP Opportunities
Bloodworks Northwest: Become part of the lifesaving link that delivers blood to patients in need in your community. Many opportunities are available depending on whether you prefer to be a donor monitor (helping certain donors feel well after donating) or work at the front desk (greeting and registering donors in the computer system).
Cancer Lifeline: Volunteer from your home as a Lifeline Specialist! Lifeline provides emotional support and resource referrals for all people living with cancer: patients, survivors, friends, family members, caregivers and coworkers. You should be comfortable listening to profound emotions, be a good listener, and be able to provide nonjudgmental support. You must have phone and Internet access. Must attend 20 hours of training provided through zoom training sessions.
Catholic Community Services (CCS) – Volunteer Services welcomes volunteers to enable elders living on low incomes and adults with disabilities to remain independent in their own homes. Volunteers may help the same person or be listed for on-call opportunities depending on their schedule and interests. Volunteers receive training, mileage reimbursement and insurance. Requests include: ⇒grocery/ medication/ meal delivery ⇒medical appointment drivers ⇒yardwork and ⇒phone buddies.
FareStart helps people experiencing poverty escape the cycle they are in by teaching them the work and life skills they need to succeed in the food service industry – and in life. FareStart is looking for supply drivers to deliver supplies attending their remote culinary classes. Remote opportunities are also available: write and decorate letters to be incorporated in FareStart meal kits which are sent to local homeless shelters, nonprofits, senior facilities, schools and more, or make masks for FareStart’s essential kitchen staff! Volunteers will be reimbursed for materials.
Habitat for Humanity seeks regular volunteers to help build and repair homes for hardworking families in King County. Volunteers also coach families in Habitat’s Family Support program, helping families find a home. Remote and in person options available. Join them for a volunteer orientation session to learn more.
Jewish Family Services helps vulnerable individuals and families in the Puget Sound region achieve well-being, health, and stability. Lifelong: For more than 30 years, Lifelong’s volunteers, who are the heart and soul of the organization, have played a vital role in helping provide quality care and services to clients. The Chicken Soup Brigade, our food program, lies at the heart of our commitment to easing the lives of people living with or at risk of serious illnesses. We would love to have you join us in this effort! Requests include: ⇒Kitchen prep ⇒Delivery drivers ⇒Warehouse Helpers organizing meals and grocery bags for delivery and pickup.
Reading Partners: A literacy nonprofit that mobilizes community volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring to struggling elementary school readers seeks tutors for one hour a week during the school year. No experience required as you are provided with an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all the books, worksheets, and step-by-step lesson plans to teach an effective lesson. In person and virtual tutoring positions available!

- Volunteer Drivers: Community Food Education (CFE) seeks Volunteer Drivers to pick up produce from Charlie’s Produce in SODO and deliver it to Lowell Elementary School (Capitol Hill).
- Community Food Education: The Community Food Education (CFE) program is designed to teach people living on low incomes how to prepare healthy and delicious meals on a limited budget. If you are passionate about food, CFE is looking for volunteers for 6-week class series. Work alongside a staff coordinator to facilitate fun, lively, and informative classes. Volunteers work with the participants on educational activities and help them prepare a shared meal. Classes are currently virtual. Training is provided.
Sound Generations is a nonprofit organization serving aging adults and their loved ones in King County. We have been serving our communities since 1967. Our staff and over 2,100 volunteers are dedicated to ensuring older adults can live ample and fulfilled lives in a community that respects and affirms the aging journey. United Way Free Tax Prep: Join the Free Tax Campaign, a program that helps struggling families and individuals prepare their taxes, gives access to savings and opportunities, and connects them to public benefits. No tax experience necessary – they will train you. Join a talented team and help reach the people who need it most. Signups begin in October.
Youth Tutoring Program (YTP) provides free one-to-one tutoring for children living in six different housing communities for those living on low incomes around Seattle. YTP student scholars represent many nationalities, cultures, languages, and religions. Volunteers meet with the same student scholar every week to mentor and tutor them in the skills they need to thrive academically and in life. Afternoon and evening hours are available; sign up for one hour a week or more and help a child succeed.

Greenwood Senior Center provides vital services as well as social, physical, and educational activities for senior citizens and neighbors in the surrounding community. The center offers opportunities for growth for all participants and works in partnership with the neighborhood to enrich the lives of all who encounter them. Volunteers are needed in a variety of capacities. Power of One: Power of One Volunteer Program assists Shoreline Public Schools in achieving excellent education for all students. Power of One works to match people from the community with volunteer opportunities in the Shoreline Schools. Volunteers bring their time, talents and expertise to classrooms and school libraries from preschool to high school.
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA): SCCA is seeking retail volunteers at their Gift Shop, which will reopen in April. In this role, you will provide excellent customer service for patients, families, staff, and community members who enter Shine. You will assist with purchases, answer phones, and process sales transactions.

- Board Member: Solid Ground’s Board of Directors is responsible for providing guidance and making policy to ensure that the agency’s mission and goals are carried out. We are especially looking for volunteers over 45 years old, BIPOC, gender non-conforming, elected officials, and people with lived experience of poverty, oppression, and/or homelessness.
- Magnuson Park Community Food Pantry: We are seeking volunteers to help provide food for Sand Point community. Volunteers can assist with unloading food deliveries, distributing food, keeping stations well stocked, welcoming patrons, providing information and direction, and assisting staff with the breakdown and cleanup of the food bank at the end of the afternoon.
- Master Gardener Volunteer Position: We are looking for skilled volunteers to help redo the landscaping around the outside of our office building in Wallingford. Our hope is to create a welcoming and inviting place for the people who visit the building, including those who access the food bank and the library. Master Gardener volunteers will “adopt a section” of our grounds, and tasks include advising about plants that do well without irrigation, designing and installing plantings, and helping maintain gardens.

American Cancer Society – West Seattle Discovery Shop: Join the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop and help us fund cancer research and free patient services! The Discovery Shop is the upscale resale shop for the American Cancer Society where the community can donate their gently used clothing and household items. We have the following needs in our store: cashiers, customer service focused sales associates, merchandise sorters and pricers. We have various openings and flexible shifts.

They have opportunities to fit every schedule. Your time and energy will make a difference!

- Marra Farm: Work at our Giving Garden at Marra Farm by building soil, preparing vegetable beds, planting vegetable starts and seeds, weeding by hand, composting, watering, harvesting, washing produce, and distributing produce to the community food bank and other locations. Many of our volunteers start with limited or no gardening knowledge and learn as they go, so we welcome you with whatever level of gardening skills and knowledge you bring.

Washington DECA (Accepting volunteer judges for November 2022 and January & March 2023): WA DECA’s vision is to prepare innovative leaders and entrepreneurs who make a positive social and global impact by providing business and leadership opportunities to help high school students succeed in school, careers, and life. DECA seeks volunteer judges for online and in-person events occurring in Bellevue in November, January, and March. These involve role playing with students, evaluating written events online according to a provided rubric, and/or scoring live presentations. Areas to be judged include operations research, entrepreneurship business plans, and project management events.

American Red Cross: Volunteers respond to disasters, speak to community groups and schools, develop youth leadership skills, support local blood drives, provide care to service members, and much more. The training and support volunteers receive on a regular basis allows them to be successful in every Red Cross program. Volunteers opportunities to provide front-line services in your community are available 365 days a year. Health care professionals and mental health professionals are encouraged to apply!

Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) provide free, unbiased and confidential help with Medicare to people of all ages and backgrounds. Join our dedicated volunteer advisors in helping people assess Medicare coverage needs, provide Medicare open enrollment help, and much more! Volunteer positions include: Medicare counselor, Clerical Supporter, Outreach activities, Presentations to the public (currently all virtual), and other special projects! No prior Medicare knowledge needed, training will be provided!

Ambassadors will work to cultivate positive relationships with community agencies and potential volunteers. - RSVP Experience in Action (EIA) Newsletter Writer: RSVP publishes a newsletter three times a year that includes articles about our site partners, spotlights on RSVP volunteers, other information relevant to older adults, and volunteering opportunities in King County. Tasks include: ⇒attending planning meetings ⇒researching and writing articles as assigned ⇒ and more!
- Knit-It-Alls (KIA): Calling all knitters! KIA Volunteers knit and crochet throughout the year to create warm winter clothing for low-income families and/or people experiencing homelessness in Seattle/King County. Tasks include: ⇒ Knitting or crocheting a range of warm items like hats, scarves, mittens, as well as baby and children clothing ⇒ Counting, tagging, and sorting KIA donations.

CIRC: At CIRC, we are developing a team of digital navigators to assist our older adult residents in navigating the ever-changing world of technology. Navigators provide individualized or small group assistance to older adults living in affordable housing that need affordable internet-capable devices, and/or coaching in introductory digital skills to become effective home internet users.

Power of One: Power of One Volunteer Program assists Shoreline Public Schools in achieving excellent education for all students. Power of One works to match people from the community with volunteer opportunities in the Shoreline Schools. - Community Food Education: The Community Food Education (CFE) program is designed to teach people living on low incomes how to prepare healthy and delicious meals on a limited budget. If you are passionate about food, CFE is looking for volunteers for 6-week class series. Work alongside a staff coordinator to facilitate fun, lively, and informative classes. Volunteers work with the participants on educational activities and help them prepare a shared meal. Classes are currently virtual. Training is provided.
- RSVP Ambassador: An RSVP Ambassador role will help increase the visibility of RSVP in King County to support our mission to encourage volunteerism for people 55 and older. Ambassadors will work to cultivate positive relationships with community agencies and potential volunteers. Tasks include: ⇒ Serving on committees or planning groups with relevant community organizations ⇒ Speaking on behalf of RSVP at Recognitions, Volunteer Meetings, tabling at community events, ⇒ and more!

- Knit-It-Alls (KIA): Calling all knitters! KIA Volunteers knit and crochet throughout the year to create warm winter clothing for low-income families and/or people experiencing homelessness in Seattle/King County. Tasks include: ⇒ Knitting or crocheting a range of warm items like hats, scarves, mittens, as well as baby and children clothing ⇒ Counting, tagging, and sorting KIA donations.
United Way Free Tax Prep: Join the Free Tax Campaign, a program that helps struggling families and individuals prepare their taxes, gives access to savings and opportunities, and connects them to public benefits. No tax experience necessary – they will train you. Join a talented team and help reach the people who need it most. Signups begin in October.
Washington DECA (Accepting volunteer judges for November 2022 and January & March 2023): WA DECA’s vision is to prepare innovative leaders and entrepreneurs who make a positive social and global impact by providing business and leadership opportunities to help high school students succeed in school, careers, and life. DECA seeks volunteer judges for online and in-person events occurring in Bellevue in November, January, and March. These involve role playing with students, evaluating written events online according to a provided rubric, and/or scoring live presentations. Areas to be judged include operations research, entrepreneurship business plans, and project management events.

Auburn Community Food Bank: Lend a hand and help others access food. The Auburn Food Bank is a volunteer-directed organization that provides food, referrals and emergency assistance to those in need. Volunteer opportunities include: ⇒counter person ⇒door person ⇒bagger ⇒vegetable/bread attendant ⇒van helper (assist with loading and unloading food donations). There is also a need for an administrative assistant/bookkeeper to provide office support. Duties include: create and maintain specialized reports, records and files required in connection with department work processes; interact with staff, volunteers, and the public; support for all areas of daily operations; and monitoring administrative projects as directed.
Bloodworks Northwest: Become part of the lifesaving link that delivers blood to patients in need in your community. Many opportunities are available depending on whether you prefer to be a donor monitor (helping certain donors feel well after donating) or work at the front desk (greeting and registering donors in the computer system).
Cancer Lifeline: Volunteer from your home as a Lifeline Specialist! Lifeline provides emotional support and resource referrals for all people living with cancer: patients, survivors, friends, family members, caregivers, and coworkers. You should be comfortable listening to profound emotions, be a good listener, and be able to provide nonjudgmental support. You must have phone and Internet access. Must attend 20 hours of training provided through zoom training sessions.
Catholic Community Services (CCS) – Volunteer Services welcomes volunteers to enable elders living on low incomes and adults with disabilities to remain independent in their own homes. Volunteers may help the same person or be listed for on-call opportunities depending on their schedule and interests. Volunteers receive training, mileage reimbursement and insurance. Requests include: ⇒grocery/medication/meal deliveries ⇒ medical appointment drivers⇒ phone buddies ⇒yardwork.
City of Renton: Serve as a volunteer at the Information Desk at Renton City Hall. Volunteering at the lobby desk provides a great opportunity to learn more about municipal government, city operations and community issues in a relaxed environment with lots of people contact while providing a valuable service to the city and the community. Tukwila Pantry: Volunteers are needed to assist in the food bank with distribution day preparation and on distribution days. Volunteers are also always welcomed to assist with weekly tasks associated in serving up to 100 people at Tuesday’s Table – Free Community Dinner Meal. Distribution day tasks: ⇒data entry ⇒unloading food trucks ⇒monitoring lines and stations ⇒restocking items and ⇒cleaning up.

Valley Medical Center: Volunteers are needed for the Gift Shop and Information Desk! Volunteers are the public face of Valley Medical center, offering many patients and visitors their first impression of the Hospital. As a volunteer in this area, you are a vital part of VMC’s warm welcome to all. Tasks include: ⇒greeting and escorting patients and visitors ⇒selling gifts & flowers ⇒answering phones ⇒delivering gift items to patients ⇒assisting Service Navigators. Volunteers are also needed to drive shuttles and assist with administrative work.
