About RSVP
Solid Ground receives federal funding through AmeriCorps Seniors to operate our Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). One of the largest senior volunteer networks in the nation, RSVP is open to anyone 55 and older who wants to use their time, talents, and wisdom to make a difference.
Join us and nearly 800 volunteers across King County to address critical community needs by volunteering with one or more of our approximately 40 nonprofit partners. Your volunteer hours contribute to a national service impact: As an RSVP member, you are part of a group of volunteers who collectively give thousands of hours each year to strengthen their communities across the country. Your experience and skills can make a difference!

Central Seattle RSVP Opportunities
Bloodworks Northwest: Become part of the lifesaving link that delivers blood to patients in need in your community. Many opportunities are available depending on whether you prefer to be a Donor Monitor (helping certain donors feel well after donating) or work at the front desk (greeting and registering donors in the computer system).
Cancer Lifeline: Volunteer from your home as a Lifeline Specialist! Lifeline provides emotional support and resource referrals for all people living with cancer: patients, survivors, friends, family members, caregivers, and coworkers. You should be comfortable listening to profound emotions, be a good listener, and be able to provide nonjudgmental support. You must have phone and Internet access and you must attend 20 hours of training provided through Zoom training sessions.
Catholic Community Services (CCS) – Volunteer Services welcomes volunteers to enable elders living on low incomes and adults with disabilities to remain independent in their own homes. Volunteers may help the same person or be listed for on-call opportunities depending on their schedule and interests. Volunteers receive training, mileage reimbursement and insurance. FareStart helps people experiencing poverty escape the cycle they are in by teaching them the work and life skills they need to succeed in the food service industry – and in life. Volunteer opportunities include: ⇒Supply drivers to deliver supplies to attendees of their remote culinary classes ⇒Write and decorate letters to be incorporated in FareStart meal kits which are sent to local homeless shelters, nonprofits, senior facilities, schools and more ⇒Make masks for FareStart’s essential kitchen staff! Volunteers will be reimbursed for materials.
Full Life Care is dedicated to enhancing quality of life for low-income elders and adults with disabilities. Volunteers are invited to support our clients one-on-one through our ElderFriends program or as part of a Care Team. ElderFriends will custom match you with a socially isolated older adult for 1:1 companionship, while Care Teams will engage you with a team of other volunteers to offer customized social, emotional, and practical support to an unpaid family caregiver of a senior or veteran. Visits can include virtual and in-person connections of your choice in Seattle or greater King County. If you are passionate about food, CFE is looking for volunteers for their six-week class series. Work alongside a staff coordinator to facilitate fun, lively, and informative classes. Training is provided to volunteers. Volunteers work with the participants on educational activities and help them prepare a shared meal. Virtual and in-person classes are offered.

Sound Generations is a nonprofit organization serving aging adults and their loved ones in King County. We have been serving our communities since 1967. Our staff and over 2,100 volunteers are dedicated to ensuring older adults can live ample and fulfilled lives in a community that respects and affirms the aging journey. North Seattle College (NSC): From Accounting for Small Business to Zumba, the Continuing Education program at NSC provides a wide array of non-credit classes for everyone in the community age 17 and older with a desire to learn and pursue personal enrichment. Geared toward lifelong learners, our reasonably priced, quality courses are led by instructors who teach their passion and profession. You’ll find our personal enrichment and professional development courses conveniently offered on both weekdays and weekends, daytime and evenings, and one-time workshops or multiple-sessions. Currently, NSC is seeking volunteers to serve as Art Gallery Attendants from July 17 to August 18 for a few hours every Tuesday through Friday.
Power of One: The Power of One Volunteer Program assists Shoreline Public Schools in achieving excellent education for all students. Power of One works to match people from the community with volunteer opportunities in the Shoreline school district. Volunteers bring their time, talents and expertise to classrooms and school libraries from preschool to high school.
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA): SCCA is seeking Retail Volunteers at their Gift Shop, Shine. In this role, you will provide excellent customer service for patients, families, staff, and community members who enter Shine. You will assist with purchases, answer phones, and process sales transactions.

- Magnuson Park Community Food Pantry: We are seeking volunteers to help provide food for the Sand Point Housing community. Volunteers can assist with unloading food deliveries, distributing food, keeping stations well stocked, welcoming patrons, providing information and direction, and assisting staff with the breakdown and cleanup of the food bank at the end of the afternoon.
- Landscape Advisor and Gardening Volunteer: If you’re a passionate landscaper, we’d love your help! We hope to redo the landscaping around our Wallingford office building to create a welcoming and inviting place for the people who visit the building, including those who access the food bank and the library. Volunteers will “adopt a section” of our grounds, and tasks include advising about plants that do well without irrigation, designing and installing plantings, and helping maintain gardens.

If you are passionate about food, CFE is looking for volunteers for their six-week class series. Work alongside a staff coordinator to facilitate fun, lively, and informative classes. The Discovery Shop is the upscale resale shop for the American Cancer Society where the community can donate their gently used clothing and household items. CIRC: At CIRC, we are developing a team of Digital Navigators to assist our older adult residents in navigating the ever-changing world of technology. Navigators provide individualized or small group assistance to older adults living in affordable housing that need affordable internet-capable devices, and/or coaching in introductory digital skills to become effective home internet users.
Food Lifeline: Be one of more than 10,000 people lending a hand to help stop hunger. Food Lifeline needs volunteer assistance to sort and pack donated produce and food. Each day they receive 25,000 pounds of donated food, which is sorted by volunteers and then distributed to 275 food banks and meal programs in western Washington. They have opportunities to fit every schedule. Your time and energy will make a difference!

Kokoro Kai Adult Day Center provides health and related services in a traditional atmosphere to primarily Japanese American families in the Pacific Northwest. Like to talk? Play games? Asian seniors would appreciate your warmth and company. If you speak any Asian languages, it’s a plus, but not a requirement. - Marra Farm: Work at our Giving Garden at Marra Farm by building soil, preparing vegetable beds, planting vegetable starts and seeds, weeding by hand, composting, watering, harvesting, washing produce, and distributing produce to the community food bank and other locations. Many of our volunteers start with limited or no gardening knowledge and learn as they go, so we welcome you with whatever level of gardening skills and knowledge you bring. Groups and kids welcome!

Washington DECA: WA DECA’s vision is to prepare innovative leaders and entrepreneurs who make a positive social and global impact by providing business and leadership opportunities to help high school students succeed in school, careers, and life. DECA seeks volunteer judges for online and in-person events occurring in Bellevue in November, January, and March. These involve role playing with students, evaluating written events online according to a provided rubric, and/or scoring live presentations. Areas to be judged include operations research, entrepreneurship business plans, and project management events.

American Red Cross: Volunteers respond to disasters, speak to community groups and schools, develop youth leadership skills, support local blood drives, provide care to service members, and much more. The training and support volunteers receive on a regular basis allows them to be successful in every Red Cross program. Volunteer opportunities to provide front-line services in your community are available 365 days a year. Health care professionals and mental health professionals are encouraged to apply!

KIA Volunteers knit, crochet, and sew throughout the year to create warm winter clothing for low-income families and/or people experiencing homelessness in Seattle/King County. Bloodworks Northwest: Become part of the lifesaving link that delivers blood to patients in need in your community. Many opportunities are available depending on whether you prefer to be a Donor Monitor (helping certain donors feel well after donating) or work at the front desk (greeting and registering donors in the computer system).
Cancer Lifeline: Volunteer from your home as a Lifeline Specialist! Lifeline provides emotional support and resource referrals for all people living with cancer: patients, survivors, friends, family members, caregivers, and coworkers. You should be comfortable listening to profound emotions, be a good listener, and be able to provide nonjudgmental support. You must have phone and Internet access and you must attend 20 hours of training provided through Zoom training sessions.
Catholic Community Services (CCS) – Volunteer Services welcomes volunteers to enable elders living on low incomes and adults with disabilities to remain independent in their own homes. Volunteers may help the same person or be listed for on-call opportunities depending on their schedule and interests. Volunteers receive training, mileage reimbursement and insurance. Volunteer opportunities include: ⇒Grocery/Medication/Meal delivery ⇒Medical appointment drivers ⇒Yardwork assistance and ⇒Phone Buddies.
CIRC: At CIRC, we are developing a team of Digital Navigators to assist our older adult residents in navigating the ever-changing world of technology. Navigators provide individualized or small group assistance to older adults living in affordable housing that need affordable internet-capable devices, and/or coaching in introductory digital skills to become effective home internet users.
Food Lifeline: Be one of more than 10,000 people lending a hand to help stop hunger. Food Lifeline needs volunteer assistance to sort and pack donated produce and food. Each day they receive 25,000 pounds of donated food, which is sorted by volunteers and then distributed to 275 food banks and meal programs in western Washington. They have opportunities to fit every schedule. Your time and energy will make a difference!
Full Life Care is dedicated to enhancing quality of life for low-income elders and adults with disabilities. Volunteers are invited to support our clients one-on-one through our ElderFriends program or as part of a Care Team. ElderFriends will custom match you with a socially isolated older adult for 1:1 companionship, while Care Teams will engage you with a team of other volunteers to offer customized social, emotional, and practical support to an unpaid family caregiver of a senior or veteran. Visits can include virtual and in-person connections of your choice in Seattle or greater King County. Power of One: The Power of One Volunteer Program assists Shoreline Public Schools in achieving excellent education for all students. - Community Food Education: The Community Food Education (CFE) program is designed to teach people living on low incomes how to prepare healthy and delicious meals on a limited budget. If you are passionate about food, CFE is looking for volunteers for their six-week class series. Work alongside a staff coordinator to facilitate fun, lively, and informative classes. Training is provided to volunteers. Volunteers work with the participants on educational activities and help them prepare a shared meal. Virtual and in-person classes are offered.
- RSVP Ambassador: RSVP Ambassadors help increase the visibility of RSVP in King County to support our mission to encourage volunteerism for people 55 and older. Ambassadors will work to cultivate positive relationships with community agencies and potential volunteers. - Knit-It-Alls (KIA): Calling all knitters! KIA Volunteers knit, crochet, and sew throughout the year to create warm winter clothing for low-income families and/or people experiencing homelessness in Seattle/King County. Volunteer opportunities include: ⇒Knitting, crocheting, or sewing a range of warm items like hats, scarves, mittens, as well as baby and children clothing, all from the comfort of home ⇒Counting, tagging, and sorting KIA donations at our Wallingford office.

Washington DECA: WA DECA’s vision is to prepare innovative leaders and entrepreneurs who make a positive social and global impact by providing business and leadership opportunities to help high school students succeed in school, careers, and life. DECA seeks volunteer judges for online and in-person events occurring in Bellevue in November, January, and March. These involve role playing with students, evaluating written events online according to a provided rubric, and/or scoring live presentations. Areas to be judged include operations research, entrepreneurship business plans, and project management events.

Port of Seattle: The SEA Airport (Seattle-Tacoma International Airport) volunteer program seeks new volunteers to join our dedicated team. Volunteers focus on elevating the customer experience by addressing their needs. Whether providing directions, distributing hidden disabilities sunflower lanyards, or providing Pacific Northwest tourist recommendations, our volunteers are invaluable members of the airport team. As SEA traffic continues to pick up, the need for additional volunteers also increases.
Reading Partners: Are you ready to help a student become a lifelong learner? Reading Partners seeks 400 volunteer tutors to work one-on-one with students during the school year. Give a little over one hour of tutoring assistance per week.
