Solid Ground hosts farm tours and student field trips at our Giving Gardens at Marra Farm in South Park and Seattle Community Farm in the Rainier Valley. Groups can visit once or come multiple times during the growing season.
For Adults and High School Youth: We offer farm tours, service learning opportunities, and work parties for high school students and adults. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Field Trip Offerings (Preschool-Middle School)
Garden Exploration (1.5 hours)
Students tour one of our farms and learn about the history of the neighborhood, organic gardening, bees, worms and soils, chickens (Marra Farm only), the environment, and eating healthy foods. Students taste, touch and smell herbs, vegetables and flowers.
Environmental Stewardship (1.5 hours, Marra Farm only)
Students conduct onsite scientific analysis of Hamm Creek to determine salmon habitat suitability. Water quality testing, stream channel analysis, macroinvertebrate observation, and riparian zone study activities invite collaboration and discussion for environmental stewardship.
Service Learning (2-4 hours)
Students learn about organic agriculture, food justice and urban farming through hands-on work. Depending on the season and day, students participate in hands-on activities and learn about worm bins, composting, weeding, planting, and more. Food grown at Lettuce Link’s Giving Gardens go to local food banks, meal programs and neighbors.
