Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us. Out of an abundance of caution, we have cancelled our March 11 Volunteer orientation and our March 19 Community Food Education New Volunteer Training. As you know, events surrounding the coronavirus are evolving rapidly. Solid Ground continues to closely monitor the changing situation, both globally and locally. With safety of our program participants, staff, volunteers, and community foremost in our minds, we are taking guidance from the King County Public Health Department and other experts to develop our response. You can read about Solid Ground’s official response to the coronavirus here.
Solid Ground’s Community Food Education programs offer cooking and nutrition classes to community members living on low-incomes. We encourage maximizing food resources with adults and families through Cooking Matters classes and grocery budgeting events, and with youth in elementary school classes. With the help of volunteers, we provide hands-on, learner-driven education that combines cooking skills, nutrition knowledge, menu planning, budgeting, kitchen safety, and sanitation.
Do you love cooking? Do you love to teach? Do you love to eat healthy? Community Food Education is seeking volunteer Cooking Facilitators, Nutrition Facilitators, and Class Assistants for our 6-week cooking and nutrition education courses to share their knowledge and skills with Seattle-area communities experiencing food insecurity.
Join us at our next Community Food Education Volunteer Training to learn more!* Trainings are hosted once per month. We ask all volunteers interested in Cooking Matters classes to attend this required 3-hour training to learn more about:
- Cooking Matters 6-week cooking and nutrition class series
- Our volunteer opportunities and expectations
- Youth education classes and events
- Our teaching methods and approach to our work
*Please note: All volunteers must have attended (or be signed up for) a Solid Ground Volunteer Orientation or must be a Cooking Matters Satellite Partner Volunteer. Please email Shana for more information.
