Solid Ground hosts student field trips and farm tours at our Giving Garden at Marra Farm in South Park. Groups can visit once or come multiple times during the growing season. For adults: We offer farm tours and work parties. For more information, please email marrafarm@solid-ground.org.
Field Trip Offerings
Garden Exploration: Preschool to Middle School
1.5 hours, Tuesdays (some flexibility on days)
Students tour our Giving Garden and learn about the history of the neighborhood, organic gardening, bees, worms, soils, chickens, the environment, and eating healthy foods. Students taste, touch, and smell herbs, vegetables, and flowers.
Service Learning: Middle & High School
2-4 hours, Wednesdays & Fridays (some flexibility on days)
Students learn about organic agriculture, food justice, and urban farming through hands-on work. Depending on the season and day, students participate in hands-on activities and learn about worm bins, composting, weeding, planting, and more. Food grown at Solid Ground’s Marra Farm Giving Garden goes to local food banks, meal programs, and neighbors.
