For class participants
We will all share a meal in class, and each class participant will take home a bag of food to practice cooking with the ingredients. At the end of the six weeks, there is a graduation where each participant who has come to 4+ classes will receive a chef knife, a cooking tool, and a book of recipes and nutrition tips. Each class participant is expected to come to all six of the classes. If you need to miss a week, you can call or email Shana McCann (contact info below).
About Cooking Matters
Cooking Matters provides 6-week class series on healthy cooking skills, nutrition education, and food budgeting for people living on low incomes. Each class is led by a team of three trained volunteers – Cooking Facilitator, Nutrition Facilitator and Class Assistant – who work alongside a staff coordinator to facilitate fun, lively, interactive, and informative classes. Participants engage in educational activities and help prepare a shared meal.
The building is ADA accessible and is on the first floor of the building. There can be language interpretation upon request. The building is not scent free. The building is on the 44 and 62 bus lines.
Cooking Matters is a partnership of Solid Ground and the national anti-hunger organization Share Our Strength.
