Seeking skilled volunteers to help redo landscaping around Solid Ground’s Wallingford building.
About Solid Ground
We believe poverty is solvable. Our communities are stronger when we support stability and break down the barriers to overcoming poverty. That means ending racism and other oppressions embedded in our institutions, policies, and culture that hold people back from succeeding.
Solid Ground combines direct services with advocacy to meet basic needs, nurture success, and spread change. Through our programs, people gain stability and build skills that equip them to move forward in their lives. And by bringing the voices of people experiencing poverty into the political process, we further social justice, supporting our entire community to reach its potential.
Landscape Advisor / Gardener
We are looking for skilled volunteers to help redo the landscaping around the outside of our office building in Wallingford. Our hope is to create a welcoming and inviting place for the people who visit the building, including those who access the food bank and the library. Master Gardener volunteers will “adopt a section” of our grounds, and tasks include advising about plants that do well without irrigation, designing and installing plantings, and helping maintain gardens.
Time Commitment
Flexible hours, Monday-Friday between 9am-5pm
Qualifications
- Skills to create and provide advice on no-water garden plant selection and garden maintenance
- Willingness and ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural and economic backgrounds, with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and of all ages
