FREE SWIM LESSONS
WHEN: Sign up for lessons by email from Monday, June 2 through Friday, June 20, 2025. After that, sign-ups will be accepted in person at swimming beaches only.
WHERE: All Seattle public beaches staffed with a lifeguard.
WHAT: All Seattle beaches with lifeguards will offer free swim lessons on weekdays this summer for kids ages 6 to 16. Sign-ups will be accepted June 2-20 via email at parksaquatics@seattle.gov or in person during beach operating hours after that.

HELP KEEPING KIDS FED THIS SUMMER
WHEN: Applications accepted through August 2025
WHAT: Low-income parents will have a little extra help keeping their kids fed this summer thanks to the SUN Bucks program, also known as Summer EBT. The program provides a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible child.
Many children are enrolled automatically – if your children are, you will be notified starting in June 2025. If your child is not automatically enrolled, you can submit an online SUN Bucks application.

GRAND OPENING: SKYWAY RESOURCE CENTER
WHEN: Saturday, May 31, 2025, 11am-3pm

WHAT: The brand-new Skyway Resource Center is celebrating its grand opening with food from local restaurants, live performances, and guided tours through the new facility. The new center will offer a variety of programs and services to uplift the community, from health and wellness to food security.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE
WHEN: Various dates and times. See below.
WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach, Washington Health Outreach, and Doney Coe Pet Clinic provide veterinary care for free or at a reduced cost to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and or living on low incomes.
Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.
Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.

GET YOUR WORKING FAMILIES TAX CREDIT
WHAT: Tax Day 2025 has passed us, but there is still time to apply for your 2024 Working Families Tax Credit (WFTC) even if you had no income last year. If you’re not sure if you’re eligible, use the WFTC eligibility checker. This checker is updated for tax year 2024 to match the adjusted income thresholds and refund amounts.

WHAT: Seattle Parks & Recreation has put together a list of free and low-cost events at community centers across the city this spring and summer. Offerings range from a Mother’s Day clothing swap at Garfield Community Center to a painting and ice cream night at Rainier Beach Community Center.

WHAT: Volunteer attorneys from the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington (LBAW) and the community, along with volunteer interpreters, provide free 30-minute consultations on topics such as immigration, personal injury, worker’s rights, family law, and more. Availability depends on attorney expertise at each clinic.
Space is limited. Consultations are first-come, first-served in-person, and there’s no guarantee of being seen due to high demand and specific legal matters.

FREE OVERDOSE PREVENTION TRAINING
WHEN: Friday, June 13, 2025, 4-5pm

WHAT: Knowing how to respond when someone has overdosed can save a life. Whether you’ve experienced substance use personally, have loved ones who are at risk, or just want to be prepared, this training will empower you with knowledge and confidence to act in a crisis. Participants will receive a free goodie bag with naloxone (Narcan) and test strips.

FEDERAL STUDENT AID APPLICATIONS NOW ACCEPTED
WHEN: Applications due June 30, 2025
WHAT: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open for all students and families applying for the 2025–2026 school year. While the final FAFSA deadline isn’t until June 30, 2025, students should apply as early as possible because some kinds of financial support are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Completing the FAFSA takes about an hour.
