ConnectUp (formerly Community Voice Mail) is a communication hub for people living on low incomes in King County. We help people access phone, voicemail, internet and other connections to the services they need to find housing and employment, and stay in touch with their communities. We also broadcast information about available community resources to end poverty.
ConnectUp helps people over the phone and in person to understand and apply for subsidized cell phone, landline and internet programs. We also do education and outreach on telecommunications assistance programs for service providers and people living on low incomes.
Did you know that people living on low incomes are eligible for...
People living on low incomes: Contact us for help finding affordable cell phone, internet and/or home phone services.
Service providers: Contact us if you are interested in having us do a presentation for your staff or clients, if you want us to come to your agency to do an outreach event (where we help your clients apply for phone and internet programs), or to be mailed informational brochures.
Community Voice Mail offers phoneless individuals and families a crucial communications link to the outside world through a service that respects privacy and dignity. People use their voice mailbox to connect with potential employers, landlords, human service providers and family members – and callers hear a personally recorded message that sounds just like typical voice mail.
Since Solid Ground initiated the program in 1991, Community Voice Mail has made a profound impact on our community, helping thousands of King County residents with low incomes become more self-sufficient. The service is available for free at about 80 participating agencies and can be accessed over the phone or in person at Solid Ground.
ConnectUp is part of the Springwire national federation, which provides Community Voice Mail through nearly 2,000 social service agency partners across the US and Canada.
Visit our Voice Mail webpage for more information about getting or using Community Voice Mail for yourself or the people you serve.
The Resource Wire is a collaborative program that each week delivers vetted, timely and relevant resources and information to individuals with low incomes and social service providers in a variety of formats including email, blog, voice mail, Facebook and Twitter. This information is designed to provide opportunities for action – getting a job, securing housing, accessing healthcare and social services, and learning about community events and resources.
Anyone can sign up to receive the Resource Wire via email or text to get connected with useful and relevant community resources. You can also view the Resource Wire on our blog or Facebook account, or by following our Twitter handle. Community Voice Mail users automatically receive Resource Wire messages directly on their voicemail.
ConnectUp provides Resource Wire in partnership with Springwire.
ConnectUp is featured in the November 2013 issue of Solid Ground's Groundviews newsletter:
"For a guy like Mike, every dollar counts. Due to health issues, he lives on very limited Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), so access to free and low-cost resources really helps him make ends meet and stay connected with his family, friends and doctors. For this reason, Solid Ground’s ConnectUp program has become essential to his day-to-day well-being." Read more...
