WHEN: WHERE:
Saturday, 9/18/10 Marra Farm
6:30 - 9:30 pm 9026 4th Ave S
Seattle, WA 98108
WHAT:
Join us at Marra Farm in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood for a Farm tour and outdoor screening of The Garden, a film about the 14-acre community garden at 41st and Alameda in S. Central L.A. The largest of its kind in the US, this garden started as a form of healing after the devastating L.A. riots in 1992. S. Central farmers have since created a miracle in one of the country’s most blighted neighborhoods, growing their own food, feeding their families, and creating a community. The Garden follows the plight of the farmers when wealthy developers threaten it, from the tilled soil of this urban farm to the polished marble of City Hall. Mostly immigrants from Latin America, from countries where they feared for their lives if they were to speak out, we watch them organize, fight back, and demand answers.
