Helping Homeless
Families
Moving families off the streets & into stable housing
Did you know…
- 8,442 people are homeless in King County (according to the most recent One Night Count combined with shelter counts).
-
Of the above, roughly 6,000 were staying in shelters and transitional housing programs – and about 50% of shelter residents are children ages 0-17.
-
The vast majority of people in shelters are domestic violence survivors.

Solid Ground provides housing through our Family Shelter, Broadview Emergency Shelter & Transitional Housing (for women and children), and Sand Point Housing programs (for families and individuals). Our JourneyHome and Stable Families programs provide case management moving families from homelessness to stability. In addition, our Homeless Prevention Programs provide counseling and financial assistance to prevent families and individuals from becoming homeless in the first place.
In 2010 alone, Solid Ground…
-
Moved 382 formerly homeless families into permanent housing.
-
Provided 74,790 nights of shelter and transitional housing.
-
Prevented 5,325 households from becoming homeless through counseling, loans and grants.
Your donation to Solid Ground's Housing programs will support some of our community's most basic needs. For example, at our Broadview Shelter for women and children (85% of whom are domestic violence survivors):
-
$50 provides one family with basic necessities such as hygiene items, food coupons and transportation vouchers.
-
$100 provides health screenings for a woman and her children upon arrival.
-
$250 coordinates 10 hours of volunteer tutoring with Broadview kids, helping them maintain their school grade level.
-
$500 provides five year-round support groups for children and youth, helping them develop healthy relationships.
-
$1,000 provides ongoing case management for one family for one year after they leave Broadview, helping them find housing, legal services, safety, and other community support.
